A Derek Riordan goal in either half earned the points for Hibs away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Pittodrie, with Barry Wilson netting his third penalty of the season in reply for the Highlanders.
The home side started strongest and came close after just four minutes, when Roy McBain hit a driving cross that was forced out by David Murphy.
Caley continued to press and earned their second corner of the opening five minutes, but Hibs stopper Simon Brown gathered the ball and held well to deny any real opportunity on goal.
The visitors' first real goal threat came in the eighth minute when Riordan's sublime turn set up a chance, but the Scotland under-21 international's finish left a lot to be desired.
Just three minutes later however, Riordan made amends by scoring the game's opening goal. An accurate Dean Shiels cross was met by the striker, he took a touch and fired the ball hard past the helpless Brown in the Caley goal to make it 1-0.
The Inverness men came back into quickly, with Spanish striker Juanjo coming close, after his side had been awarded an indirect free-kick in the area for high feet.
The ex-Hearts star fired a shot on target, but the ball deflected off comeback man Ian Murray and comfortably into the arms of Brown.
Juanjo continued to be a threat and came close with a glancing header that was easily held by Brown. The game continued to go from end to end and Gary O'Connor came close when his long-range effort after 18 minutes was tipped over the bar by ex-Rangers youngster Brown.
Chances continued to appear at both ends with Ritchie Hart a constant threat for Thistle and O'Connor and Riordan putting pressure on the Caley backline.
The home side should have equalised when Hart got on the end of a Juanjo pass after good work from the pair, but his shot was an easy stop for Brown.
Caley finally levelled a minute later however, when Juanjo was clearly upended in the box by Gary Caldwell. Wilson stepped up and coolly sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 1-1.
The second half saw Hibs come out with all guns blazing, but Caley weathered the early storm. Stephen Whittaker's long cross nearly found the net, but Brown took no chances and tipped the ball over the bar and out for a corner.
Hibs stunned the travelling home fans when a Garry O'Connor effort bounced up, found the head of Riordan and rebounded into the net.
The striker didn't seem to know much about it, but nevertheless his instincts ensured that the visitors were 2-1 with an hour on the clock.
Riordan came close twice to completing his hat-trick, his first a low drive from 30 yards that was saved by Brown and his second attempt an audacious chip that clipped the crossbar, before he was replaced by Stephen Dobbie.
The substitute should have made it three himself when he found himself one on one with Brown, but the keeper made a good save.
Caley came close late on through Graham Bayne, but it was all too late and the Edinburgh men held on quite comfortably to leave Pittodrie with all three points and a 2-1 victory.
