Inverness Caley Thistle and Hibs fought out a battling 0-0 draw in Inverness, a result which fairly reflected the balance of play.
The Edinburgh side were hoping to record their first SPL win over Caley Thistle in the Highland capital, having failed to take even a point from their hosts last season. They added Moroccan middle-man Merouane Zemmama to their starting eleven. Inverness were at full strength.
Barry Wilson almost shot the home side into the lead in the opening stages, but his net-bound drive was blocked by Steven Whittaker after a swift attack led by Craig Dargo.
Dennis Wyness should have done better when put clear by Dargo but his shot failed to trouble keeper Zbigniew Malkowski. Scott Brown came closest for the visitors in the opening 20 minutes with a header over the crossbar.
Hibs were weakened on 29 minutes when Chris Killen's foot injury saw him replaced by Abdessalam Benjelloun. Then Hibernian nearly went ahead when a wonderful Michael Stewart 25-yarder was matched by an equally brilliant save from Mark Brown.
Wilson and Grant Munro threatened to break the deadlock in the latter stages of the first half, but could not break through the well drilled Hibs defence.
Zemmama wasted another free-kick opportunity for the visitors early in the second half just after John Rankin had volleyed wide from a Roy McBain assist.
The rain damped the mood and neither set of players looked likely to produce the magic needed to make a difference.
Liam Keogh could have netted just seconds after replacing the below-par Wyness but his great shot flashed wide.
Nothing much troubled either keeper late on until Malkowski saved with his boot to deny Dargo in the closing moments.
