John Collins' first taste of management was a roller-coaster ride as Hibs had to be content with a draw.
Four second-half goals punctuated an entertaining contest, but Collins will be unhappy at the two goals his side gifted Kilmarnock.
It was Kilmarnock who threatened first and Colin Nish out-jumped the Hibs defence to get his head to a Peter Leven free-kick but the ball looped over.
Hibs hit back and Michael Stewart split the Kille defence with a great pass to Ivan Sproule who turned inside two defenders before lashing at Graeme Smith.
Hibs were struggling to get in behind a well-disciplined Killie defence which was well marshalled by Gordon Greer.
Leven tried his luck with a 25-yard free-kick after Shelton Martis had fouled Nish but the ball sailed over the top.
Killie took the lead four minutes into the second half when Steven Naismith's shot across goal was deflected past his own goalkeeper by Martis.
But Hibs equalised a minute later when a Sproule shot broke to Stewart and he kept his cool from six yards.
Fletcher then put Hibs ahead in the 57th minute when he shot into the bottom corner from 20 yards.
But Naismith headed a 65th-minute equaliser after Zbigniew Malkowski had failed to deal with a Leven throw-in.
