Inverness must feel like they should play Hibs every week because this comfortable 2-0 victory gives them three wins out of three against their rivals this season.

And it was former Hibs centre-back Darren Dods who came back to haunt his old club with the crucial opening goal.

Then a soft penalty for a trip by Gary Caldwell on Barry Wilson ensured Inverness took all three points.

In truth Hibees were simply awful, and if they produce a similar level of performance in next weekend's semi-final Cup clash, Hearts could win at a canter.

The home side did have the better of the first half, but Derek Riordan blasted wide from Caldwell's long ball and Mark Brown produced good saves to keep out Ivan Sproule's low drive and Chris Killen's header.

But equally the visitors' Dennis Wyness should have scored when he pulled down the ball but then fired straight at Zbigniew Malkowskii.

Inverness showed more purpose after the break, and when Hibs failed to clear a long throw Dods was on hand to fire home from 10 yards after 59 minutes.

Hibees missed chances to grab an equaliser when Paul Dalglish glanced Riordan's corner wide and Sproule blazed over from 15 yards.

But Mark Brown produced a wonderful save at full stretch to deny Riordan, whose 30-yard free-kick looked net-bound.

And that proved vital as Caldwell tripped Wilson in the box, and the striker picked himself up to ram home the spot-kick and secure all three points for the visitors.
