Hibs U19 side were knocked out of the Uefa Youth League this evening, in an excellent game at Easter Road.
The Hibees had reached this stage by knocking out Norwegians Molde and French side Nantes in previous rounds.
Backed by an incredible crowd of 7,723 inside Easter Road, the Hibees stormed into a 1-0 lead, after Jacob Blainey headed home from a Robbie Hamilton cross.
Hibs continued to play well and carved out a couple of other chnaces through Malek Zaid and Josh O'Connor.
The second half started the same, with a couple of good chances that we couldn't take, the German side then started to come back into and took a firm grip of the game with about 15 mins remaining, the Hibees pinned back constantly.
However the outstanding Ethan Laidlaw managed a break away, and when baring down on goal from an angle, hit his shot wide, with fellow striker Josh O'Connor an option in the middle.
This miss came back to haunt the Easter Road kids, when Dortmund equalised through a penalty from Julian Rijkhoff, after a mistake from Murray Johnson in the Hibs goal led to a handball in the box.
Horribly, Dortmund took the lead on 90 minutes, after a brilliant passing move lead to Hendry Blank finishing smartly to give the visitors the lead.
Incredibly, Hibs came close to scoring on another two ocassions, first Jacob Blainey hit a fierce free-kick, that went straight at the Dortmund keeper, but it slipped through his grasp and ended up OVER the bar, and somehow not in the net.
From the resulting corner, there was scramble in the box and the Dortmund keeper stopped an effort on the line, and when the ball was cleared the whistle was blown.
Sadly there was some bad blood when the final whistle went, after Dortmund players gestured towards the Hibs supporters.
There was also the incredible scene of Dortmund 19's manager Mike Tullberg, running up the length of the Easter Road touchline, like Jose Mourinho, to celebrated the winner.
HIBS-MAD VIEW:
First of all, how pathetic is Mike Tullberg, an ex Jambo still obsessed with Hibs all these years later. No class whatsoever.
On the upside the Hibees have some amazing talent in the ranks.
Look out for Ethan Laidlaw, Josh O'Connor, Jacob Blainey, Kanayo Megwa, Murray Johnson and Murray Aiken bothering the first team squad in the coming weeks.
