Rod Petrie has taken a 20% pay cut after the club announced record losses, the Edinburgh Evening News has said.
The managing director's offer became public after the club's announcement of a £2.8m loss in the last fianancial year. The Evening News says this takes his pay from £125,000 to around £100,000.
After the latest huge losses, RP is set to ask the players at the higher end of the wage scale to follow suit, but he didn't do it first to put pressure on the players to do the same.
Petrie said: "If I was going to be asking others to make a sacrifice I decided it would be right for me to make a sacrifice. When I met the players to explain the situation none of them, as far as I know, were aware that I had taken a reductiono salary. It was not done to use it as a lever or to put pressure on anyone. We have had a very extensive exersice in looking at every cost to see whether it could be reduced, managed or done away with and I felt at a time of fianancial stringency taking a reduction in my own salary was the honorable thing to do."
Personally, I think this is a decent move by Petrie. These are harsh times for football, and he is obviously looking to lead from the front. However, this is only one small thing, and more is needed if the club is to get the fans back on side.
