The big man had been training at Easter Road recently, and Bobby Williamson has decided to bolster the squad by giving him a one year deal.
Paatelainen said: "It's brilliant to be back. I was jogging round Arthur's Seat before the first- team started training and the coaching staff were there. I went to say hello and they asked what was happening with me. When I said nothing concrete I was asked to come and train with the team. I was just looking at it as training facilities and I was delighted to get the pre- season in because it's always important to get yourself fit. I'm very happy to end up here. It did not take long to make up my mind. I've always said Hibs are close to my heart. I had three wonderful years here and it has been easy to settle in. It was a very good experience in France, football wise and off- field as well. I was unfortunate with the fracture in my foot but these things happen."
The veteran striker continued: "I was not too happy when I had to leave Hibs but football sometimes takes you to different places even although you would like to stay. We have a good coaching staff, great supporters and a very good young squad. I am sure if we start the season well we will carry that on."
Boss BW was clearly delighted at the capture as well, saying: "I'm pleased to have him here. He is a very talented player, a great professional with a great attitude and I cannot speak any more highly of him. He's in good shape and ready to lead from the front and help the younger players develop like Craig Brewster did last season."
Mixu was always a big favourite with the fans, so the news should go down well on the terraces.
There was a lot of speculation that Mixu had already signed a one year contract as a coach when Franck Sauzee was manager, so it will be interesting to see if he has a player/coach role at the club.
You never know, get Franck and wee Russ back, and I can look forward to derbies again!!!!
