It's been revealed today that Hibs have two players on trial at East Mains, both playing in today's development squad friendly with Newcastle United U23's.
The young Hibees lost out 1-2, with trialist, Bristol City winger Jonny Smith, scoring the goal for the home side.
Smith started his career with Wrexham, before moving to Bristol City for a development fee.
He has spent time out on loan with Cheltenham Town, FC Fylde and Tranmere Rovers, clocking up 71 games and scoring 12 goals in the process.
The 21-year-old has a year left on his deal at Ashton Gate.
The other trialist was 18-year-old attacking midfielder Will Donkin, who is already an international for Chinese Taipei, having been capped 13 times, picking up his first cap at just 16.
Donkin was linked with a move to the Chinese Super League as recently as February and is a free agent after leaving Crystal Palace on July 1st.
Editor's View:
There's no harm having a look at trialists, you never know when you could come across a gem.
Hibs boss Paul Heckingbottom is still looking to bolster his squad ahead of the new season, and should he decide to sign any of these trialists, they are both young, but are both probably too experienced for the development squad.
Both Smith and Donkin look decent and they are still young enough to improve if the Hibees decide to offer them deals.
Donkin started his career as youth with Chelsea, and will have had a good grounding.
He has a fair bit of international experience at just 18 and looks quite an exciting prospect.
It's not clear how long they will be at East Mains, but both players will be hoping to win a deal.
