Tommy Preston 1932-2015

Last updated : 16 April 2015 By Steve Forbes

Sad news has reached us at Hibernian-Mad towers, that club legend Tommy Preston has passed away.

Reports only surfaced yesterday that the 82-year-old had fallen quite badly and had broken his hip, and had been admitted hospital.

The official club website is today reporting that Tommy has sadly passed away.

Tommy was an "inside forward", who broke into the "Famous Five" Hibs side of the 50's.

He went on to make 313 appearances for the Hibees, scoring 50 goals.

Preston's most famous goals, of course, came in the 1961 Fairs Cup tie with Barcelona, when he scored in both legs, 4-4 at Camp Nou, and 3-2 for Hibs at Easter Road, as the Hibees knocked the giants out of Europe.

He started his career in the Juniors with Newtongrange Star, and after he left Hibs, made one single appearance for St Mirren.

Tommy was still a regular at Easter Road up until only a few weeks ago and will be sadly missed by everyone connected with the club.

Hibernian-Mad would like to offer our condolences and are thoughts to Tommy's family at this difficult time.

A true Hibernian legend.
