This was the Hibees second game of their pre-season tour of Holland, following Friday’s 3-0 defeat to Heracles at Tubbergen.
John Hughes sent his side out with a 4-5-1 formation, changing to a 4-3-3 when attacking, and the move paid off, with the Hibees playing some good, crisp, attacking stuff.
Kevin McBride was highly impressive, in a holding midfield role, and the Hibees controlled large sections of the game, with their high tempo passing.
However, NEC stood strong, until hitman Derek Riordan stepped off the bench and dispatched a trademark free-kick past the NEC keeper.
Hibs held out, and came away with an impressive 1-0 over a side that finished 13th in the Dutch Eredivisie.
