Jake Doyle-Hayes Leaves Hibs

Last updated : 02 January 2025 By Steve Forbes

Hibs have today revealed that midfielder Jake Doyle-Hayes has left the club with immeadiate effect.

The 26-year-old has agreed a termination of the last 6 months of his Easter Road deal and is now a free agent.

Doyle-Hayes joined the Hibees in 2001 from St Mirren, and had a decent first season in green and white, playing 44 times and scoring twice.

However it was all downhill from there, he was famously injured in training by his own manager, Lee Johnson, and has been hampered by injury ever since.

The former Aston Villa youth product only managed another 25 appearances since then, and has pretty much spent the last two YEARS on the treatment table.

Doyle-Hayes did have the chance to leave Edinburgh in December 2022, when English side Forest Green Rovers had a bid accepted for the player, but he turned the move down.

He becomes the THIRD player to leave the club in the last day or so, following Nohan Kenneh and Josh O'Connor out the Exit door down Leith, as David Gray continues to trim his squad and free up wages to bring in new recruits.

Speaking to the official club website, Hibs boss Gray said:

“It has been a frustrating few years for Jake where he has struggled with injuries and for regular game-time. We agreed that the termination of his contract was best for both parties to allow him to move on and explore the next steps of his playing career.

“I would like to thank Jake for his efforts and what he has given to the Club over the years. This fresh start will be good for him and we wish him all the very best for the future.”

HIBERNIAN-MAD VIEW:

A move which is probably best for both parties.

Jake showed in flashes he could be a good player, but his consistancy was a problem, and add to that his injury woes, it seems a good time for both club and player to get a fresh start.

Hibs will be looking to bring in 2-3 players this window, and clearing the decks of as much "dead wood" as possible will make that process a whole lot easier.
