Hibs have today been linked, again, with a move for Sheffield United winger Jamie Murphy.
The 24-year-old was linked with a move to Easter Road at the end of December, but he broke into the Sheff Utd team and has since started scoring goals and playing well.
Hibs boss Terry Butcher was said to have a deal in place, but the English side apparently had a change of heart due to Murphy's form.
Butcher is now eyeing up a loan deal until the summer for the former Motherwell man.
Murphy has recently said he would like to stay and fight for his place at Brammal Lane, but Clough is looking to bolster his squad during January, and may want to get Murphy off the wage bill to free up funds.
Butcher has done likewise, with Kevin Thomson, Rowan Vine, Tom Taiwo and Tim Clancy all being told they have no future at Hibs.
