Hibs have today announced that they will face La Liga giants Barcelona in a glamour pre-season friendly.

The Hibees should have played Barca last season, but pulled out due to some behind the scenes problems with the fixture, capital rivals Hearts stepped in.

The Catalan giants are once again spending their pre-season training at
St Andrews and will also play Dundee Utd again, on Sat 26th July, with a 4pm kick off at Tannadice.

Barcelona will now visit Edinburgh to play the Hibees at the 67,000 capacity Murrayfield on Thursday July 24th 2008 (7.45pm kick off)

Easter Road chief executive Scott Lindsay said:

"We are delighted to be able to take part in a pre-season fixture against a team of
Barcelona's stature.

"The last time the two clubs met in
Edinburgh was over forty years ago. That was a remarkable occasion and we fully expect this match to provide another fantastic experience for everyone involved."

The only down side for fans is that Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto' are leaving the Nou Camp in the summer and probabley won't be there, although Leo Messi and Thierry Henry will and probabley some exciting summer signings!

The last time Hibs faced
Barcelona was back in 1961 in the Fairs Cup (now Uefa Cup), the first leg ended 4-4 in the Nou Camp. Joe Baker scoring a double as well as goals from Preston and McLeod.

The second leg was played at Easter Road in front of 55,000, the Hibees running out 3-2 winners through goals from Baker, McLeod and Kinloch, handing the Easter Road club a 7-6 aggregate win!

Hibs have already announced two pre-season friendly's against English Premiership opposition,
Middlesbrough on Saturday 2nd August 2008 (3pm kick off) and Wigan Athletic on Tuesday 5th August (kick off 7.45pm).
