Hibs take ex Gretna defender Martin Canning on trial

WWW.HIBERNIAN-MAD.CO.UK understands that Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen has given ex Gretna defender Martin Canning a chance to impress on trial at Easter Road.

The 26-year-old former Ross County defender will be on trial over the next week or so and he will probabley line up for Hibs reserves against Aberdeen reserves this week.

Canning arrived at Gretna in a £60,000 move from Ross County and was a mainstay in the Raydale Park sides triumphant first division campaign last season, he has made 46 appearances for the club.

He also made over 120 appearances for Ross County as well as spending some time on loan at Peterhead in 2001-02.

Canning was released by Gretna during the January transfer window and would therefore be able to sign for Hibs right away despite the transfer window being closed.
