Hibs have today completed the signing of Swedish B International midfielder Melker Hallberg.
The three times capped player joins the Hibees on a three-year-deal and becomes summer signing number nine.
He started his career with Kalmar FF before a move to Seria A with Udinese.
Hallberg then had loan spells back in Sweden, as well as Norway and Italy.
He then signed for Danish club Vejle BK on a permanent deal last summer, but left the club and he has now joined up with Paul Heckingbottom at Easter Road.
Hallberg has also represented Sweden at U17, U19 and U21 level.
Speaking to the official website, Hallberg said:
“I’m really excited to have signed for Hibernian. I think it’s the perfect place for me to enjoy my football and develop as a player.
“I had other options but they made me feel really wanted and it helps to know they have been looking at me for some time.
“From what I have seen I think I will be well suited to Scottish football and I like the passion of the supporters. I’m just looking forward to getting started now.”
Hibs boss Paul Heckingbottom added:
“Melker is a young player who has a lot of attributes and potential.
“He is comfortable on the ball, plays with a lot of energy and is tactically very good.
“His pedigree speaks for itself and we were impressed by his determination to come here ahead of offers elsewhere.”
Editor's View:
This looks a good bit of buisness from the Hibees.
Central Midfield was an area needing bolstered and Hallberg looks to be a player with good pedigree.
He is described as "box to box" and could be the missing part of the jigsaw Hibs were looking for.
Hallberg has played a decent level and will look to complement the likes of Vela, Mallan and Allan in the Hibees engine room.
Hopefully this isn't the last signing of transfer window, the squad could really do with a penalty box striker in the McNulty mould.
