Hibs boss John Hughes has tonight swooped to sign Sunderland forward Anthony Stokes.
The 21-year-old Republic of Ireland international has signed a 3-year-deal at Easter Road, and could go straight in to the squad for Saturday’s trip to face his former club Falkirk.
Stokes has been signed to replace Steven Fletcher, who signed for Premiership new boys Burnley in a £3m deal.
He has already spent time being managed by John Hughes at Falkirk where he was huge hit, while on loan from Arsenal, before a £2m move to Sunderland after hitting 16 goals in 18 games for the Bairns.
The fee taking Stokes to Easter Road is, as yet, unknown, although figures of between £300,000 and £500,000 are being banded about.
Stokes found himself well down the pecking order at the Satdium of Light, behind the likes of Darren Bent, Kenwyne Jones and Djibril Cisse.
He spent time out on loan last season with both Sheffield United and Crystal Palace in the Championship.
An excellent piece of business for the Hibees.
