Hibs have today completed the signing of QPR keeper David Marshall on a two-year-deal.
The 37-year-old Scotland international becomes the Hibees first signing of the summer.
The deal for the former Celtic keeper has been in the pipeline for weeks, but would not have went through if new manager Lee Johnson didn't want the player at Easter Road.
His Hibs contract begins officially on July 1st.
Speking to the official club website, Hibs boss Johnson said;
“I’d like to offer David a very warm welcome. He’s an excellent goalkeeper and actually a player that I’ve tried to sign before.
“His experience will be invaluable for us both on and off the pitch. It’s vital that our senior players aren’t just great characters, but also help us set the standard around the training ground and on matchdays.
“He is a fantastic addition to this squad, and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Marshall added:
“I’ve kept an eye on it as I’ve got a lot of friends that play in the league, but it’s been a long time since I played in the SPFL. I’m really looking forward to it.
“Ultimately Hibs should be looking to be the third best team in this country.
“European football has got to be a minimum aim for the Club and competing in cup competitions.
“We know there’s a hell of a lot of hard work needed to get there, but there’s no reason why we can’t. We want to be a strong top six side battling for Europe every year; that’s the demands we should put on ourselves.”
HIBS-MAD VIEW:
An outstanding first summer signing for the Hibees.
Marshall has a ton of experience at international level, playing 47 times for Scotland, and has also played in the Champions League and English Premiership in a glittering career.
Hibs were crying out for leaders in the squad last season, this is a cracking start!!
