Hibs sign Middlesbrough defender Nathan Wood on loan

Hibs have announced their first signing of transfer window deadline day, with the capture of Middlesbrough defender Nathan Wood.

The 19-year-old English central defender has joined the Hibees on loan until the end of the season.

Wood brings some much needed competition to the centre of defence, that previously only had Darren McGregor, Paul Hanlon and Ryan Porteous.

He is highly thought of at the North East club and has played 12 times for their first team.

Wood has also previously had a loan spell with Crewe Alexandra, also playing 12 times in League One last season.

Speaking to the official club website, Wood said:

“I’m buzzing to be here, it’s a big club, and I’m really excited to get going.

“I was speaking with the manager and from the first five or 10 minutes, I got a good feeling straight away about the plans, the squad, the facilities and the fans. My gut told me that this was the right move for me, and I wanted to get it done.

“It’s something out of my comfort zone, but that’s what excited me about it. I see it as a real challenge.”

Ed's View:

This lad looks a very promising prospect, he is apparently lightning fast and already has some first team experience under his belt.

Hibs badly needed another option in the centre of defence and now have it.

At 6ft 3in, he also bring some height to the side as well.

Welcome to the Hibees Nathan!!!
