Hibs sign defender Mikey Devlin

Hibs have today confirmed the signing of free agent defender Mikey Devlin on a deal until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old has been on trial at the Hibees East Mains training facility over the last week and has impressed Lee Johnson enough to secure a deal.

Devlin left English side Fleetwood Town during the January transfer window, allowing him to sign for anyone on a free despite the window being closed.

The Hibees had been looking for another defender after Ryan Porteous was sold to Watford for £500,000 in the last few days of the window.

Former Aberdeen and Hamilton player Devlin comes with a wealth of experience and should go straight into contention for the weekend visit of Kilmarnock.

Hibs boss Lee Johnson, speaking to the official clu website said:

“We’re delighted to bring Mikey to the Club and add depth in our defensive area.

“We have been impressed with him in training over the last week, and by bringing him in permanently it gives us the perfect blend at centre-half having two experienced players and two talented youngsters.

“He’s a good character and his experience of Scottish football will benefit the group. We look forward to continuing working with him."

HIBS-MAD VIEW:

A good solid signing that will see us through until the end of the season.

He has plenty of experience and should be a good addition to the defence.

Hopefully we can keep him fit and see the best of him.
