Hibs have today confirmed the signing of defender Marvin Ekpiteta.

The 28-year-old has joined the Hibees from Blackpool after his contract ended with the English club.

6ft 4in Ekpiteta has signed a three-year-deal at Easter Road and becomes Head Coach David Gray's third summer signing.

Speaking to the official club website, Gray said;

“Marvin is someone I look forward to working with. He has great experience at a good level in England and adds extra leadership to the dressing room.

“Physically, he has all the attributes that fit the demands of Scottish football; he’s big, strong, dominant, very athletic, and will be an asset in both boxes. We’re really pleased to bring him to the Club.”

Sporting Director Malky Mackay added:

“I’m delighted to welcome Marvin to Hibernian FC as we continue to improve our squad.

“Like Warren O’Hora, Marvin is another player who has been a captain and a leader within First Team groups. He is a real defender with a lot of experience, and I look forward to seeing him in action.”

Ekpiteta has worked his way through the English pyramid from Chelmsford City of the National League to Blackpool in the Championship.

He has played over 290 games in his career and has scored 19 goals, so is clearly a goal threat.

He has played for Nigeria U20's and England C.

HIBERNIAN-MAD VIEW:

David Gray doing what Hibs have been screaming out for, for a long time - building from the back!!

Marv looks a big powerful unit, and added to fellow new boy central defender Warren O'Hora and keeper Josef Bursik, it's been a good start to this window.

C'mon the Hibees!
