Hibs have today announced their first signing of the summer transfer window.
New Hibs Head Coach Sir David Gray has captured the signature of keeper Josef Bursik on loan from Club Brugge.
The 23-year-old English keeper joined up for his first day of pre-season training, with his new team-mates today.
Speaking to the official club website, David Gray said:
“I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring Josef to the Football Club. He’s someone we’ve been monitoring for a long time due to his technical ability, pedigree, and the positive character references we’ve received. My coaching staff and I are looking forward to working with him.”
Sporting Director Malky Mackay added:
“I’m really pleased Josef has decided that Hibs are the Club to showcase his talents. He is a top goalkeeper and a fine young man, and we look forward to seeing him at Easter Road. I’d like to thank Club Brugge for the smooth transition of Josef’s loan deal and wish them the very best in the coming season.”
Bursik started his career in the Wimbledon youth set-up, before moving to Stoke City.
He then had numerous loan spells away, but managed to force his way into the Stoke team and made over 50 appearances in the English Championship.
Bursik joined Club Brugge in January 2023 for an undisclosed fee, but due to injury never featured for the Belgian champions.
He has represented England from U17-U21 level.
HIBERNIAN-MAD VIEW:
It's good to see the club finally make a signing this summer, and it's in a much needed position.
With David Marshall retired, Murray Johnson loaned out and Jojo Wollacott possibly on his way out of the club, it's a signing that was badly needed.
The lad has some decent experience and will hopefully prove to be a solid signing.
Welcome to the Hibees Josef!!
