Hibs sign Cameroon International defender Thierry Gatheussi!!!

Last updated : 23 July 2007 By Steve Forbes

Hibs have this afternoon revealed that they have signed Cameroon international defender Thierry Gatheussi.

The deal to sign Gatheussi looked dead last week, when he failed to get back in touch with Hibs boss John Collins, with the Hibees boss stating the deal was finished.

Gatheussi, 25, joins the club from French side FC Sete, after impressing on the pre-season trip to
Austria and also the friendly with Brechin City at Glebe Park.

The former
Montpellier and Cannes player has represented his county once, against Bulgaria in 2004 and will hope his performances in a Hibs shirt can earn him a recall.

The player, who can play both full back positions as well as centre back, has signed a two-year contract at Easter Road and has joined for a nominal fee as he still had one year left on his FC Sete deal.

Hibs boss John Collins was delighted to sign up his SIXTH summer signing following the capture of Alan O'Brien (Newcastle Utd), Mark Kerr (Motherwell), Torben Joneleit (Monaco, loan), Clayton Donaldson (York City) and Yves Makaba Ma-Kalamby (Chelsea).

It is also believed that Collins is still in the transfer market for a powerful striker and another ball winning, powerful midfielder.

The Hibees gaffer told the OFFICIAL club website, www.Hibernianfc.co.uk:

"We were very impressed by Thierry in Austria, he is an accomplished player who we believe will do very well in our league. He can play on either the left or right side of defence and has in fact played in central defence at his previous clubs, and so gives us a few more options in that area. We are delighted to have him at the club."
