Hibs have today made their first signing of the January transfer window, with the capture of Bodo/Glimt striker Elias Melkersen.
The Hibees have splashed out "a significant six figure fee" for the 19-year-old goal machine.
The press had been reporting the fee as £350,000, but the Scotsman yesterday revealed that it was quite a bit more, without releasing an actual figure.
Although if rumours are to be believed, the figure sits in excess of £500,000.
The 19-year-old has signed a 4-and-a-half year deal at Easter Road.
Melkersen never played a first team game for the Norwegian Champions, and spent last seas on loan in the Norwegian second division with with Ranheim, hitting an impressive 19 goals in 29 games.
Speaking to the official club website, Hibs boss Shaun Malony said:
"Elias is a really talented young player who has genuine potential to play a big part and, ultimately, to be very successful at this Club.
“We will have to give him time, of course, to adapt to our style of play as a team and also to our league, so we’ll be conscious of this.
“He’s an exciting, attacking talent, technically good with both feet and he has good attributes to drop deeper on the pitch. We’re looking forward to working with him.”
Elias added:
“I'm really excited to come to a new country and a new club, and I'm looking forward to joining the team.
“You can expect goals and also a hardworking striker that bleeds for the Club. In my head I always want to score goals every game to help the team.
“I can play in all three positions upfront, so I am flexible, but mostly I like to play the main striker. I'm a goalscorer. I like to run a lot, and I give energy to the team.”
Hibernian-Mad View
A really exciting signing made by the Hibees, which is a real signal of intent for the remainder of the season.
Although the fee is "undisclosed" it seems this signing could be one of the top two or three in our club's history, when it comes to actual transfer fee.
Melkerson joins an already exciting looking front-line at Easter Road, along with another new boy Chris Mueller, as well as last season's 50+ goal trio of Nisbet, Doidge and Boyle,
Wiht more signings on the way, it's going to be an exciting transfer window for Hibs fans.
