Hibs set to sign Middlesbrough defender Nathan Wood

Hibs boss Jack Ross has tonight confirmed that a deal is close to sign Middlesbrough defender Nathan Wood on loan.

The 19-year-old is expected to sign a loan deal in the coming days as they look to bolster their squad before the window opens.

Wood was at Easter Road today as the Hibees beat Livingston 2-0 to stay top of the Scottish Premiership.

Speaking to the press Ross said:

"He was here today.

“More to get a medical done than anything else. Hopefully we can announce it soon.

"He gives us that defensive reinforcement. He is a really good young player with a big future ahead of him.

"He goes away with England Under 20s over the international break.

“He’ll hopefully join us for the season and strengthen the group. I've said beforehand that we were looking to strengthen middle to front and with Jamie’s injury, we might need to do more of that as well.

“But we’ll look to be active and strengthen the group before we head to Tynecastle.”

ED'S VIEW:

On paper this looks a good signing for the club.

We are short in the centre of defence, and with the move for St Johnstone defender McCart dead in the water, Hibs have moved quickly to land another central defender.

It now looks like it could be a busy end to the transfer window after Jamie Murphy picked up yet another injury.

Hibs are apparently looking at bringing in a keeper, two defenders and two attacking players.
