Hibs have tonight revealed that club captain Ian Murray will not be offered a new deal.
The 31-year-old former Scotland internationalist has missed much of the season injured and has played his last game for the club.
Murray is currently in his second spell at the Leith San Siro after re-signing for the Hibees in 2008 from Norwich City.
He first broke through the Hibees famous youth academy in 1999, he then moved on a bosman free to Rangers in the summer of 2005 after 150 games in a green and white shirt.
Murray's move to Rangers was hampered by injury, with him eventually being diagnosed with reactive arthritis, he managed less than 50 games for the Ibrox club during his 2 year stay.
He then moved on to Norwich City for a short spell during the 2008-09 season, and only made 9 appearances for the English side, before returning to his beloved Hibs.
Overall "Nid" made over 260 appearances for the Hibees over a 10 year period at Easter Road, scoring 12 goals. He was also capped 6 times by Scotland.
He made his Scotland debut againt Canada in a friendly at Easter Road in 2002, Scotland winning 3-1.
Murray was also awarded a testimonial season last season, his last in Leith.
Speaking to the official club website Murray said:
“Things have moved on and changed since the gaffer’s come in so there’s no real surprise for me.
“I had ten great years over two spells and I’m just disappointed I didn’t win any trophies during that time. I don’t know what’s next for me. I get my last pay cheque next week then I am unemployed for the first time in my career.
“I think it could be the right time for me to go and live and learn from a different culture.
“I have always fancied playing outside the UK but I have lots to consider with a young family.”
Hibs boss Pat Fenlon added:
“I’d like to thank ‘Nid’ for his dedication to the club. He’s been a great pro for Hibernian. It’s been unfortunate he hasn’t played a lot since I’ve been here due to injury.
“But it’s been great for me and the coaching team to have him around.
“We wish him all the very best.”
