St Mirren manager Danny Lennon has revealed that the Hibees have offered Buddies midfielder Jim Goodwin a pre-contract agreement to join the club in the summer.
Hibs boss Pat Fenlon contacted Lennon to let him know of his intensions towards the St Mirren captain.
Should the 30-year-old agree to sign on at Easter Road on a pre-contract, Fenlon may make a nominal fee offer to land the former Scunthorpe hardman during the January transfer window.
Speaking to IC Express Sports, Lennon said:
“I spoke to Pat Fenlon earlier this week and he told me he has sent Jim a letter to offer him a pre-contract.
“I can’t stop him doing that and Jim will just be exercising his rights when he considers it. However, we will be doing everything we can to keep hold of him.
“Jim has given us a figure for what terms he is looking for and we have managed to match that. We would love to get him tied up.
He is our skipper and a terrific lad and is definitely someone we want to keep at this club.”
Goodwin started his career with Celtic, but left without making an appearance, he then went on to play for Oldham Athletic, Huddersfield, Stockport County and Hamilton, before signing for the Paisley outfit.
His best position is as a defensive midfielder, but he can also play in the centre of defence, as well as right back.
