Hibs keeper Murray Johnson joins Airdrie on loan

Exciting young Hibs keeper Murray Johnson has today headed out on loan.

The 19-year-old will spend next season on loan with Championship club Airdrie and can't be recalled.

Johnson had a short loan spell with Airdrie during the 2022-23 season, playing 6 games.

He was then loaned to Queen of the South the following season, but was recalled after only one game, after both David Marshall and Jojo Wollacott were both injured in the Europa Conference League games against Inter Club d'Escaldes.

Hibs Sporting Director Malky Mackay said:

“This is the perfect next step for Murray and an opportunity for him to gain regular game-time at a competitive level.

“Murray is a young ‘keeper that we hold in high regard and to continue his upward trajectory, he needs to play senior football week-in, week-out.

“Playing for Airdrieonians will provide him with new experiences and tests that he’s not experienced regularly before. We have good relationship with Airdrie and having had three players on loan with them last season, we know they are a club that believes in young players and gives them an opportunity. Everyone is looking forward to following Murray’s progress closely.”

A good move for Murray.

This is just what he needs, exposure to first team football.

He is a very talented keeper and a potential Hibs No/1 of the future, games under his belt will help him get there.
