Pennant was on trial last January with the Hibees, but ended up signing with English League One side Bury until the end of the season.

Hibs boss Neil Lennon is looking to bolster his attacking options after losing Jason Cummings, Grant Holt, James Keatings, Andrew Shinnie and Alex Harris over the summer period.

Pennant would bring a wealth of experience to Easter Road, having played for the likes of Liverpool, Stoke City, Real Zaragoza and Birmingham City in a career that has seen him make over 430 appearances and score more than 30 goals.

He has also been capped 24 times by England U21's.
