Hibs midfielder Gary Deegan is set to face up to 6 weeks on the sidelines after breaking his jaw on a night out.
The Irishman was attacked on Edinburgh's George Street on Saturday night, whilst standing outside a nightclub, in what seems to be an unprovoked attack.
Two men are said to have approached the player, with one punching the ex Coventry and Bohemians player in the face.
Deegan's jaw requires an operation, with the healing process expected to take 4-6 weeks.
The player will be a big loss to the Hibees, after an excellent start to his career in the capital, following his summer transfer from relegated Championship side Coventry City.
Fellow new boy Tom Taiwo is expected to step into the popular 25-year-old's place in the first team.
Taiwo only arrived at Easter Road a couple of weeks ago as a free agent, following his release from Carlisle United.
