Hibs defender Riley Harbottle signs for AFC Wimbledon

Hibs have today announced another departure from Easter Road this summer.

Defender Riley Harbottle has joined English League Two side AFC Wimbledon for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old signed for the Hibees last summer from Nottingham Forest for a reported "six-figure fee" but failed to make the grade at Easter Road.

Harbottle only managed 2 appearances for the club, before being loaned out to Colchester United, in EFL League Two, last January, where he played 14 games.

Hibs have now allowed him to leave the club and return to the EFL.

Hibs boss David Gray, speaking to the official club website said:

“I’ve had a number of good conversations with Riley, and he expressed his desire to be playing senior football regularly.

“He understood that game-time would be limited here, so when this opportunity materialised, we knew it would be one he’d be interested in.

“He is a great lad and has been a pleasure to work with. We wish him nothing but the best for the future.”

HIBERNIAN-MAD VIEW

It's hard to tell if this is a good or bad move, because the player was never given a chance.

Signed by Lee Johnson and quickly put in the development squad, Harbottle was only seen in the green twice.

After shelling out a reported decent fee to sign him, it was strange that he was never given a run.

Good luck Riley!
