Hibs defender Kyle McLelland joins Coleraine on loan

New Hibs head coach Sir David Gray has today continued his overhaul of the first team squad with another exit.

Young defender Kyle McLelland has today signed for Northen Irish side Coleraine on loan.

The 22-year-old will join the NIFL side, managed by former Hibs midfielder Dean Shiels, for the whole of the up-coming 2024/25 campaign.

McLelland, who signed for the Hibees on a 3-year-deal from Rangers in June 2022, spent last season on loan with Queen of the South and will now gain more match experience under Shiels.

He has also had previous loan spells with Falkirk (Whislt at Rangers) and Cove Rangers.

Hibernian FC’s Sporting Director Malky Mackay commented:

“This is a further opportunity for Kyle to gain regular experience of senior football.

“Moving to Northern Ireland and competing in a new league will give Kyle different tests and will provide him with a good platform to work on his game. We look forward to seeing how he progresses.”

HIBERNIAN-MAD VIEW

Not surprised by this one.

McLelland has never forced his way into a regular spot in the first team and has spent most of his time at Hibs out loan.

He is also out-of-contract next summer, so depending on how he does under Shiels, you may not see him back at Easter Road.

We wish him well on his latest loan spell.
