Hibs defender David Gray has signed a new contract extension with the club.
Gray, 27, still had a year left on his deal at Easter Road, but Hibs boss Alan Stubbs has moved quickly to tie down the classy full back until the summer of 2017.
Speaking to Hibs TV, the former Preston defender said:
“I’m delighted to be in a situation where I’ve been able to extend my deal with Hibs – I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my first season at the club.
“As much as it was disappointing not to achieve our goal of promotion, I’m still very excited about the future and I was desperate to be a part of it.
“Next season we need to make sure that we hit the ground running.
“The manager has spoken to us as a group and told us we need to put down a marker early on and get back to the Premiership as early as possible.”
Hibs boss Alan Stubbs has also appointed the full back as captain following the departure of Liam Craig.
The Hibs boss added:
“This is great news as we continue to prepare for next season and it will give everybody here at the club a lift.
“I’ve also decided to appoint David our new club captain and I’m sure he will be well equipped for the role.
“Since day one, David has been an important and influential member of the squad and the supporters appreciate the qualities he brings to the team.
“David is a big part of my plans for the future and his experience and ability will be valuable as we aim to achieve promotion next season.”
CEO Leeann Dempster also added:
“We are delighted that David has committed to the Club for a further year.
“It is important that we build continuity at the Club and that supporters understand that their contribution whether from season tickets, buying shares or joining HSL can make a huge difference and allows myself and Alan to plan the shape of the team.”
