Hibs captain Rob Jones has today signed for English Championship side Scunthorpe United.

29-year-old defender Jones has signed a 3-year-deal at the club and joins immediately.

The fee is said to be £500,000 up front, with a possible further £300,000 in add-ons.

Hibs reached an agreement with 6ft 7in Jones following a number of bids in January that were rejected, that he could leave in the summer, which the Hibees have honoured.

Jones played over 100 games for Hibs and scored 12 goals, including the 1st as the Hibees lifted the 2007 Scottish League Cup at Hampden, with a 5-1 win over Kilmarnock.

He joined the club in a £150,000 deal from Grimsby Town in 2006.

Hibs chief Rod Petrie was glowing about Jones and thanked him by saying:

"Rob leaves with all our best wishes. Rob has led by example on and off the pitch. We could have asked for nothing more from him than the professionalism, commitment and leadership he demonstrated, particularly after the distractions in the transfer window last January.

"This is a move that Rob wants for family and footballing reasons and gives a return to the Club at the right time.

"Rob will be remembered fondly as a cup winning captain, scoring with a towering header and lifting the CIS Cup in 2007. I would like to thank Rob for all that he has done for Hibernian Football Club and to extend the Club's best wishes to him and his family and to wish him continuing success in his football career in the English Championship."

Hibernian-Mad would like to take this oppertunity to thank the big man for his contribution to the club, he will always be welcome back down Leith after captaining the club to it's first trophy in 16 years.

The search is now on for his replacement, and the money raised by his sale MUST be handed to new boss John Hughes to build the team.
