Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen has today revealed that he is pondering a move for a new goalkeeper this summer.
The Hibees boss was not impressed with the display of Andy McNeil in Saturday's 2-0 loss in
He was equally unimpressed by Belgian international goalkeeper Yves Ma-Kalambay in the first leg at Easter Road last week, a game that also finished 2-0 to the Swedish side.
Over the last few years the Hibees have been hindered by lack of quality in the goalkeeping department and Paatelainen wants to change that.
Simon Brown, Zibi Malkowski, Andy McNeil and now Yves Ma-Kalambay have all been given a chance as Hibs No1, but all have failed to be convincing enough to keep the jersey.
Ma-Kalambay actually didn't perform too badly last season, but still made a couple of howlers, which were put under the microscope more that they should have, because of mistakes made in the past by Simon Brown, Andy McNeil and Zibi Malkowski.
Andy McNeil seems too small to be a top class keeper and the kid David Grof, although thought of VERY highly, is short of match experience and surely can't be put straight in at the deep end.
Hibs boss Paatelainen said:
"The goalkeeping position is something we need to take a serious look at."
"There is a greater need to do that after what happened against Elfsborg."
"I need at least four new players to compete in every area of the pitch."
Lack of a good goalkeeper has been Hibs downfall over the last 3 or 4 years, a time when we probabley had our best team since the 70's.
Think how good we would have been and what we could have achieved with a good keeper behind players such as David Murphy, Steven Whittaker, Scott Brown, Ivan Sproule, Chris Killen, Michael Stewart, Derek Riordan, Garry O'Connor, Steven Fletcher, Kevin Thomson, Benji, Dean Shiels, Ian Murray, Chris Hogg and Merouane Zemmama!!!
