Hibs have been handed another boost tonight, with the news that manager Colin Calderwood has won the SPL Manager of the Month Award for February. The Hibees have turned around their fortunes over the last month, and have turned themselves from relegation material, into top six contenders, with a run of 4 victories in February. Wins over Kilmarnock, Inverness and a double over St Mirren has landed Calderwood his first monthly award as Hibs boss. Hibs also extended this at the start of this month, with another fine win last night, a 2-1 away win at Hamilton. Calderwood has previously been under fire after taking over from John Hughes at the end of last year. A run of 12 games without victory, and five straight defeats, had the club facing up to the real possibility of 1st division football next term. However, Calderwood has made some shrewd signings in the January transfer window, and has turned the Hibees season around. Victor Palsson (from Liverpool), Martin Scott (Ross County), Ritchie Towell (Loan, Celtic) Matt Thornhill (Notts Forest) and Akpo Sodje (Charlton Athletic) have all helped turn around the clubs poor form. Only on loan Czech keeper Jakub Divis has so far failed to taste any first team action, but could be set for a first team debut against St Johnstone on Saturday, after Graham Stack was injured in last night’s win at Hamilton Accies. Only this week Calderwood also completed the exciting signing of free agent, and former Bolton Wanderers and Portugal U21 striker Ricardo Vaz Te, another who could make his debut in Perth on Saturday. Well done Colin from everyone at Hibs-Mad, a well deserved award.
