According to reports in today’s tabloids, Hibs boss John Hughes has reignited his interest in Scotland defender Russell Anderson. The 31-year-old former Aberdeen captain is currently with English Championship side Derby County, who have stated they would like to keep him, but Anderson is said to be mulling over whether to cut his losses and return to Scotland or not. Anderson joined Sunderland in a £1m deal in 2007, but suffered a horrendous time with injury at the Black Cats, he then joined Plymouth Argyle on loan. He then returned to the North East and was released from his Sunderland contract in January, Hibs then made an offer, but he decided to stay in England, and signed until the end of the season with Derby County. Hibs boss Hughes is now said to be keen to talk again with Anderson, in an attempt to lure him to Easter Road for next season, as he re-builds his faltering, under pressure, squad.
