Hibs boss John Hughes has today started his summer clearout at Easter Road.

Yves Ma-Kalambay, Patrick Cregg, Darren McCormack and surprisingly Moroccan forward Abdessalam “Benji” Benjelloun have all been told their contracts will not be renewed.

On loan Alan Gow has returned to Plymouth Argyle.

Benji is the highest profile player of the five to leave, and should have no problem finding himself another club.

The 25-year-old Moroccan international was part of the Hibees 2007 League Cup winning side, finishing top goal scorer in the tournament, and also grabbing a double in the 5-1 cup final win over Kilmarnock.

He did himself no favours however by going awol at the start of the season for months on end, before finally returning to the club, after a loan spell in Belgium.

Benji played 80 games scoring 15 goals for the club.

Goalkeeper Yves Ma-Kalambay has been with the Hibees since 2007, after signing from English champions Chelsea.

The 6ft 6in Belgian failed to hold down a regular spot in the Hibees first team, after a number of high profile blunders.

With Hibs boss Hughes signing keepers Graham Stack, Mark Brown and Graeme Smith, Ma-Kalambay’s future looked in doubt, and now it’s been confirmed.

The former PSV Eindhoven and Anderlecht youngster is now free to find another club after 60 appearances at Easter Road.

Patrick Cregg is the third player to be shown the door today, he signed from Falkirk on a free at the start of this season.

The 24-year-old Irish midfielder signed a one-year-deal last summer, but has failed to impress in a Green & White shirt.

The former Arsenal youth played 107 games for Falkirk before following Hughes to Edinburgh, and becoming his first signing as Hibs manager.

He is now also free to find another club.

The Hibees have also released defender Darren McCormack.

Former Scotland U21 captain McCormack has been allowed to leave the club after a number of off the field problems.

He was fined after an altercation in an Edinburgh nightclub with Hearts striker Callum Elliot, breaking the jaw of his rival.

McCormack was also convicted of drink driving, driving without a license, and driving without insurance.

Hughes’ patience seems to have snapped with the youngster, and he has also been allowed to leave his boyhood heroes.

The last to leave is winger Alan Gow, the 27-year-old failing to impress while on loan from English Championship side Plymouth Argyle.

Gow played 8 games scoring 1 goal, against Montrose in the Scottish Cup.

There is expected to be a few more faces to follow those five out the exit door, with Lewis Stevenson and Steven Thicot the likely candidates.

Hibs-Mad would like to take this opportunity to wish all five the very best in their future careers

Benjelloun must get a special mention for his part in the Hibees League Cup win in 2007.
