Ex Hibees - Where are they now????

Last updated : 29 July 2011 By Steve Forbes

Since Colin Calderwood took over the Easter Road hot-seat from John Hughes in October last year, a huge amount of players have been shipped out of the club over two transfer windows, Hibs-Mad takes a look at where they are now….

Chris Hogg - Former club captain, left in January to join Inverness Caledonian Thistle on a short term deal. Left them this summer, has been training with hometown club Middlesbrough, and is currently on trial with League Two side Crewe Alexandra. ***UPDATE*** Hogg failed to win a contract with Crewe, and re-signed a 1-year-deal with Inverness.

Sol Bamba - Sold to Leicester City for £250,000 in the January transfer window, has been a bit of a revelation, with rumours of bigger clubs circulating for his signature already.

Merouane Zemmama - Sold to Middlesbrough for £250,000 in January, started quite well at the Riverside and scored a couple of goals, but, and not surprisingly, picked up an injury that finished his season early.

Lee Currie - The first player to be shown the door by Calderwood, the youngster never made a first team appearance before his release, currently with 3rd division side Berwick Rangers.

Jonathan Grounds - Spent time on loan from Middlesbrough, but struggled with SPL football, went back to the Riverside without really impressing north of the border.

Ewan Moyes - Much was expected from the 6ft 3in centre half after he broke through the youth ranks. Spent time out on loan, and impressed with, both Brechin City and Arbroath. It came as a surprise when he was axed. Spent time on trial with Crewe Alexandra, but failed to win a deal, before he signed for Blue Square Premier side Gateshead.

Thomas Flynn - Part of the Hibees treble winning U19 side of 2009, failed to make the breakthrough to the first team and was released. Currently with Cowdenbeath.

Graeme Smith - Another keeper shown the door by Calderwood, joined the Hibees from Brighton & Hove Albion, but is better know for his time with Motherwell. Also played for Rangers and Ross County. Only played 16 times for Hibs before his release. Currently a free agent.

Jakub Divis - The third keeper shown the Easter Road exit door. Joined the club on a 12 month loan deal in an attempt to impress Calderwood, played a couple of games before his loan was ended early, returned to Tatran Presov of Slovakia.

Darryl Duffy - Signed for the Hibees on loan from Bristol Rovers, and broke his foot in training before even making an appearance for the club, only managed a handful of games before heading back to Bristol. Was released by Rovers and has just signed for Cheltenham Town.

Ritchie Towell - Had an excellent spell at the Hibees on loan from Celtic last season. Was an ever present before returning to Parkhead. Has expressed an interest in heading back to Hibs on a permanent deal or on loan, but so far is still with Celtic.

Kurtis Byrne - A product of the Hibees famous youth academy, anther who was part of the 2009 treble winning U19 side. Scored the goals that clinched all three trophies, and big things were expected from the Irish kid. Made a handful of first team appearances before he was released. Has signed a 1-year-deal with Ross County.

Ricardo Vaz Te - Did pretty well in his short time at Easter Road, scoring in the 2-2 derby draw with Hearts last season, and looked pretty dangerous when he played. Didn’t turn it on enough though, and Calderwood didn’t follow up his initial interest, currently on trial with Championship side Barnsley.

Francis Dickoh - Signed for the Hibees last summer, one a 1-year-deal from Dutch side FC Utrecht. Had a decent first season at Easter Road, with the highlight a goal as the Hibees thrashed Rangers 3-0 at Ibrox (again), but couldn’t agree terms to extend his contract, and left the club. The Ghanaian international is currently a free agent.

Valdas Trakys - The Lithuanian striker joined the club on a short term deal, after impressing former gaffer John Hughes while on trial. Didn’t do himself justice in his 9 appearances, and left the club without scoring a goal. Has signed for Greek side Anagennisi Epanomis, the 16thclub of his career.

Kevin McBride - The 30-year-old midfielder spent two seasons at Easter Road, and did pretty well when he first signed, his performances, just like his team mates, dipped alarmingly, and was loaned out to Raith Rovers for the last 3 months of the season. Left Starks Park in the summer and is currently without a club.

Kevin McCann - A product of the Hibees youth system, the full back exploded onto the scene as an 18-year-old, breaking into the first team under John Collins, and was par of the 2007 League Cup winning side. Capped at U20 and U21 level, but his career has gone into freefall after some horrendous injuries. Effectively spent 3 years on the treatment table with knee problems, before recovering and was sent on loan to Inverness. Did well initially with the highlanders, before, again, succumbing to a knee injury, returned to Hibs injured, and was quickly released. Was linked with Aberdeen during the summer, but is still a free agent.

Steven Thicot - Signed by former boss Mixu Paatelainen from Nantes, the versatile Frenchman could play in defence, as well as midfield, and managed over 40 appearances for the Hibees in 3 seasons. Quickly fell out-of-favour under Colin Calderwood and was released. Has been on trial in Belgium and France but is currently a free agent.

Colin Nish - Hibs paid Killie £150,000 for the hitman in 2008, but he never really excelled at Easter Road. Was a target for the boo boys, and had to apologise to the supporters after an outburst in the newspapers. Was freed ad has since signed for Hartlepool United.

John Rankin - “The Squiggler” never really hit the heights at Easter Road, following a £100,000 move from Inverness. His last 12 months at the club were terrible, his form was woeful, and he couldn’t pass a ball 5 yards. Totally lost interest and lost his place in the side. Calderwood released the midfielder, and he ended up joining SPL rivals Dundee Utd. Hit out at the club once he left, like a childish little boy, stating that he had joined a bigger club and was going to be playing in Europe. Dundee Utd were pumped out after one round.

Liam Miller - Joined the club from Championship side QPR. Had an outstanding start at Easter Road, but like a lot of his team mates, his form faltered badly. Was offered a new deal at Easter Road, and was said to be close to signing, but turned the offer down and signed for Aussie side Perth Glory instead.

Derek Riordan - The Scotland international re-joined the club in a £400,000 deal from Celtic in 2008, he went on to score 106 goals for the club before his contract expired in the summer. Was never offered a new deal at Easter Road, but has since signed for Chinese club Shaanxi Chanba on a staggering £30,000 a week.
