Freed Hibs midfielder John Rankin is said to be having talks about a possible move to Dundee Utd.
The 27-year-old former Inverness Caledonian Thistle player was told, just a couple of days ago, not to bother coming back to East Mains for training, after being told he had no future at the club. Rankin will be a free agent in the summer, and with Dundee Utd on a massive cost cutting exercise this summer, with the likes of Goodwillie, Conway, Bauben and Gomis likely to leave the club, it seems Utd boss Peter Houston has ear marked the out-of-favour Hibees as a replacement. Rankin signed for the Hibees in a £150,000 deal from Inverness in 2008, following a stint with Ross County. He started his career with the Man Utd youth academy, but failed to make the grade at Old Trafford, before moving to Ross County.
He has played over 100 games for Hibs, scoring 8 goals.
