Brian McDermott leaves Hibs

Hibs have today revealed that Brian McDermott will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June.

McDermott joined Hibs in May 2023 as Director of Football, working with ex manager Lee Johnson and then his replacement Nick Montgomery, and overseen the football operation at the club.

However, after just one year in the job, the club has announced his exit.

McDermott, posted the following on Linkedin:

“There have been obvious consequences from that outcome. What I will say is it was never from lack of effort and desire. Sometimes in life and football things do not work out. The only thing to be done is get up and go again

“The supporters of the club followed the team loyally throughout the season. I hope in the future the club gets the results their support deserves. All the very best to David Gray, to Malky in his new role and the staff and players. I will be watching and supporting from afar.

“This time last year I was given the opportunity to become director of football at this great club. I would like to thank the Gordan family, Ben Kensell and the board of directors for the opportunity."

HIBERNIAN MAD VIEW

With Malky Mackay coming in this seemed inevitable.

We couldn't see the need for both men to be in the jobs they occupied and it's another wage gone from a big wage bill.

McDermott seemed a nice enough bloke but there didn't seem to be much progress under his leadership.

We wish Brian well, wherever he goes next in football.
