Hibs boss Colin Calderwood has revealed that the club has agreed a mutual termination of the loan of Newcastle forward Phil Airey.
The 19-year-old joined the Hibees on a six month loan deal in the summer, but picked up an injury in training, and had to go back to the Premiership side for rehab.
Airey only managed 18 minutes of football in a green and white jersey, against Kilmarnock in a 4-1 loss.
He then picked up a thigh injury in training the following week.
Much was expected of the exciting youngster, but due to the form of fellow loanee Leigh Griffiths and the fact he would be 5th in the pecking order for a start in attack, his loan deal has been terminated.
Hibs boss Colin Calderwood said:
“Phil Airey’s loan agreement has become null and void between the two parties.”
